About Ontario Rent Receipt Template
In Ontario a landlord must provide a rent receipt, free of charge, whenever a tenant or former tenant asks for one, including for rent, a rent deposit, arrears, or any other amount paid. The Residential Tenancies Act sets out what a valid receipt contains: the address of the unit, the name of the tenant, the amount and date of the payment, what the payment was for, the landlord's name, and the landlord's signature.
Tenants commonly need receipts for tax credits such as the Ontario Trillium Benefit, for proof of address, and for immigration or benefits applications. A former tenant can request receipts for up to 12 months after the tenancy ends. This free fillable template produces a receipt that includes every required element; it is a general guide, not legal advice.
